Tonka Kumaru is a contemporary tribute to one of perfumery’s most precious ingredients—the tonka bean (Dipteryx odorata, also known as Kumaru). In the signature style of Atelier Materi, perfumer Céline Bourdoncle Perdriel explores tonka through a play of rich textural contrasts, pairing its almond-like and milky facets with dry, roasted, and balsamic nuances.
The composition opens with a radiant and memorable introduction: the sparkling freshness of bergamot and aromatic cardamom elevate a rich bitter almond extract. At the heart of the fragrance, an unusual and comforting accord of roasted barley and hay absolute unfolds, while cedar leaf adds structure, green freshness, and architectural depth.
In the dry down, roasted tonka bean blossoms in its most opulent expression. Enriched with pure Madagascar vanilla, warm amber, and a sophisticated musk accord, Tonka Kumaru leaves behind a long-lasting, enveloping, and irresistibly warm trail of exceptional elegance.
